James Ervin Patterson, age 74 of Oliver Springs passed away on May 6, 2025, at Methodist Medical Center.

James was born on September 27, 1950, to Ervin and Bernice Patterson. He was raised in New River, Tennessee. James was a coal miner for 32 years and worked for Consolidation Coal Company. He loved gardening, fishing, and enjoying time with his grandchildren.

James is preceded in death by father, Ervin Patterson; mother, Bernice Patterson; brother, Benny Patterson; son-in-law, Timmy Tinker; great-grandson, Grayson Fine.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Patterson; son, James Patterson (Carrie); daughter, Christy Tinker; sister, Sheina Farmer (Kenneth); grandchildren, Tyler Kindrick, Tyler Melton, Katie Fine (Daniel), Kara Patterson, Peyton Tinker; great-grandchildren, Rylie Kindrick, Blakelyn Kindrick, and Kamilia Bowman; nephews, Bradley Farmer, Jason Patterson, and Benji Patterson.

Receiving of friends will be on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. Funeral service will begin at 12 noon on Saturday, May 10, 2025, with Pastor David Crowe and Pastor Mitch Melhorn officiating. Graveside will immediately follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
