James Odell Phillips also known as "Pops" age 80 was slipping away on June 3 surrounded by his loving family and friends. He passed away on June 4, 2025 at his home. James was a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs. He was a brick mason by trade, he enjoyed working on cars and was an avid fisherman.

James was born on June 16, 1944, he loved serving God and was a faithful member of Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents Jimmy and Mammie Phillips. Sisters Sally Langley, Alice Ferguson, Ina Lou Gonzales, Dolly Lambert and Christine Carroll. Brothers Robert, CB, Terry, Oscar and Sam Phillips. Mother in law and Father in law Clifford and Martha Hall. Sisters in law Faye Carroll and Stella Dison. Brothers in law Don and Danny Hall. Son in law Chris Kelly.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Merlene Hall Phillips. Sons James (PeeWee) Phillips and wife Vickie, Jason Phillips and wife Shawna. Daughter Diane Kelly.

Grandchildren Tyler Phillips and wife Katie, Jacob Phillips and fiancé Kylie, Addison Phillips, Tabitha and fiancé Tyler, Katie Bowman and husband Johnathon.

Honorary Grandchildren Gracie, Willy Goodboy, Paisley, Hadley, DJ, Andy, Rayne and Easton.

Special in laws Sarah Gunter, JoAnn and Mike Davis, Johnny and Wilma Hall, Larry Hall and Donna Jean Hall.

Also a host of Family and friends. The family would like to thank his hospice nurses, especially Anna Marie for their superb care.

The family will receive friends Saturday June 7, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Funeral will be held Sunday June 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church with preachers Tim Wilson and MItch Garner officiating, burial will follow at the Cemetery.
