Juanita Patterson Potter, age 83 of the Coalfield Community passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 10, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
Juanita was the devoted wife of Reverend James B. Potter for 42 years of marriage before his passing in 2002. Together they built a life on Faith, Love and Commitment. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother – but most importantly a child of God. She was a longtime member of Big Mountain Baptist Church.
Juanita was preceded in death by her late husband Reverend James B. Potter (JB), parents Reverend Early and Etta Patterson, son-in-law Bill Southard, brothers Donald and Daniel Patterson and sister-in-law Peggy Patterson.
Juanita is survived by her daughters: Wilma Sue Woods (Wayne), Sheila Southard, Teresa Potter and Anita McKamey (David).
Grandchildren: Adam West (Jennifer), Will Southard, Chris Southard (Megan), Lynnette Windham (Jamie), Brandy Phillips (Boyd), Garrett Seeber and Jared Southard (Jamie). Juanita was also privileged to have a bonus granddaughter Taylor Riley.
Great grandchildren: Jayleigh Lowe (Landon), Tucker and McKinlee West, Bailey, Brenna and Bo Phillips, Ava, Evelyn, Finnegan, Cambria and Carson Southard, Belle, Lainey, Jasmine and Emerie Windham. Also, a future great great granddaughter Lowe.
Also survived by: brother David Patterson, sisters Faye Russell (James), Flonnie Sims (Mike), sister-in-law Loretta Patterson and an uncle Walter Phillips (Jean), along with longtime friend Ginny LaBell and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Sharp Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Big Mountain Baptist Church. Family and friends are invited to follow in procession to Estes Cemetery following the funeral for burial.
