Matthew Morlu Korvayan, Jr., age 57, departed this earthly life on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Piedmont Henry Medical Center, Stockbridge, GA. Matthew entered this life on December 22, 1964, to the late Matthew Morlu Korvayan, Sr. and Betty Umguam Johnson.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Johnson; his grandmother, Vonyee Saye; his sister, Kou Rose Zawolo; and his brother, Unity McGill. Matthew's journey began in Tappita, West Africa.  His formative years found him to be somewhat of a challenge to his young parents.  He was raised by his grandfather and his grandmother, prior to going to Monrovia to live with his father. Although his early school-age years were a challenge, he was always the scholar.  He had a major love for education and the Lord. He attended mission schools, where he had to study the Bible. He also would talk about how he had chapel everyday, and he was in service with his father most every Sunday. He constantly talked about Sunday School and his relationship with the Lord. He graduated from Wells Hairston High School in Monrovia, Liberia.  Of course, he graduated at the top of his class. As the Civil War took control of Liberia, Matthew would take his siblings to Lofa County to seek refuge.  He has been taking care of people his entire life. Unfortunately, during this time, his father was killed by rebel soldiers.  This act probably prompted him to become super passionate about freedom, government, and civil rights of people. He was highly dedicated and loved his home country.  His life story is amazing and not easily told in a few short paragraphs. Seeking exile in Guinea, West Africa, he began his engineering career. Being a scholar and extremely intelligent, he had the highest score in his class. He gained certification in drafting, and was able to secure a Distribution Management position for the Refugee High Commission. As always, he was in a position of serving people and taking care of his family.  In 1997, he chose not to take an engineering position with a German car manufacturing company to come to the United States under a resettlement program. He made this decision because he wanted to support his mother and siblings in relocating to the United States. The family settled in Stone Mountain Georgia in 1997.  He immediately found work, and enrolled in technical school.He graduated from Dekalb Technical Institute with an Associate's degree in Drafting; received his Bachelors in Computer Science from Clayton State University, and his Masters in Public Administration from American Military University.  During this time, he also met and married his devoted wife, Dr. Sheila Knaff from Oliver Springs, TN. The standing belief was that their union was ordained because a stranger from Tennessee meets a man from the other side of the world at a Best Buy in the middle of Georgia, and they were never separated from November 3, 1999 to present day.  He was, indeed, the Best Buy!  Matthew worked at Lucent Technologies, prior to going into business for himself. After leaving Lucent, he has spent the past years in the used car business.  Matthew could build a car from the ground up.  He was amazingly talented.  He loved to help people.  He enjoyed football (soccer), basketball, singing, music, and dancing.  He was a great dancer!  He was also a phenomenal cook.  He loved to feed people. He was a scholar, and he valued education. Matthew knew people from around the world, and he had loving and lifelong friendships with people wherever he went.  He would give total strangers his last dime if they needed it.  Matthew loved his family. You might never know how ill he was because the Lord brought him through so many complicated situations.  However, he would fight for life because he said he needed to be here for his sons.  He would say, "If the Lord chose to take me today, I'm ready.  I'm good.  I fight to live for my sons!  I have to make sure that they are ready." Matthew has fought the fight, and he has kept the faith.  The Lord has spoken. Matthew leaves to celebrate his life his mother, Betty Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; his wife of 22 years, Dr. Sheila Knaff Korvayan; four  sons, Robert and Joshua Korvayan of McDonough, GA, Matthew Morlu Korvayan of Minneapolis, MN and Eddie Karleh Korvayan of Monrovia, Liberia; one daughter, Iesha Lewis (Tony) of Crete, IL; several sisters, Angela Washington (Eugene) of New Jersey, Jerrylin McGill of Minneapolis, MN, Patience (George) Tulay of Ontario, Canada; several brothers, Asekor Glay (Miranda) of Minneapolis, MN, Alvin Glay of Atlanta, GA, Alton Glay of Minneapolis, MN, Kollie Korvayan of Monvoria, Liberia; three sister in laws, Delphine Wilkerson(Arnold) of Harriman, TN, Sarah Carlton of Murfreesboro, TN, and Shena Carmichael of Oliver Springs, TN; one brother-in-law, Robert Knaff, Jr. of Strawberry Plains, TN; four grandchildren, Kyrie Korvayan of Minneapolis, MN, Olivia and Mason Lewis of Crete, IL, and  Eddie Korvayan of Monrovia, Liberia.   Along with his remaining siblings, he leaves behind to celebrate his life: uncles, aunts, nieces, nephew, cousins,and numerous friends. Special Friends include George Moore, Eric Floumo Pewee, Zechariah, Mickey Korvayan, John Pewee, Lametria Moore, Raejon Timmons, and Teresa Stephens.In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the education fund for Robert & Joshua Korvayan.
