Nancy "Kathy" Sholtz, age 71, passed away on August 27, 2024.

She was born and raised in Oliver Springs, TN. She was a retired Corrections Officer and was a member of Beech Park Baptist Church. Her hobbies included studying the Bible, listening to John MacArthur, and discussing politics.

Kathy to some and Mother to two, she was a fighter. She was noble. She was kind. She was genuine and sincere. She always put her children, Zoe and Zak, first. She lived a life of hard challenges but overcame everything that was thrown at her with a smile on her face. Though some challenges may have hardened the hearts of others, her generous and loyal spirit shined through with empathy and compassion. She was the embodiment of strength. She taught her children to laugh when they are sad and know that good times are on their way. She would pull them out of their darkest times, making sure they remembered, "this too shall pass." She was gentle yet firm and showed love to her children without needing anything in return. Whenever they needed something, she was there. Her love was truly unconditional. Leaving an abusive marriage, she put herself through school so that she could provide for them by becoming a correctional officer. She battled long hours and grueling work to give her children the best that they could have. She worked alone, never re-marrying or dating, focusing all of her available time into raising her children. She was dedicated to them above all else. Forced into early retirement by ovarian cancer, she continued the fight not knowing the outcome. Again, she won. Faced with poverty, disability, and illness she made sure both children made it through school, never missing a sports game or graduation. She stayed ready to attend to any of their needs even after they became adults, always seeing them as her babies. She provided needed and thoughtful advice whenever she was called upon, and even until the end always seized the opportunity to say, "I love you." Nancy, Kathy, Mom, Momma, Ma, Mother, or sister, in spirit she will continue to guide us.

She is preceded in death by her father Douglas O. Silvey; mother Betty Cox Silvey; and brother David Silvey.

Kathy is survived by her son Zakary Sholtz and daughter Zoe Sholtz of Knoxville; sister Toni Schafer of Titusville, FL; niece Kathryn Elizabeth Schafer of Titusville, FL; nephew Frederick Schafer IV (and family) of Titusville, FL; and brother-in-law Frederick Schafer III of Titusville, FL.
